Paris Olympics Crew Announcements

Congratulations to the 6 NUBC alumni who have been selected to represent Great Britain at the Olympic Games in Paris.

Current European and Word Champion sculler, Lola Anderson, will be racing in the women’s quad at her first Olympic Games.

Lola spent three years at NUBC between 2016 and 2019, a fantastic year where she won the women’s championship eights at BUCS Regatta, and in the quad won the Borne Cup at Henley Women’s Regatta and the Under 23 World Rowing Championships.

Lola then went on to win both the Princess Royal Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta and the Wingfield Sculls in 2021 and has since gone on to win ten senior international medals.

Lola is a big inspiration to, and a regular supporter of, the women at NUBC. Everyone at the club is immensely proud of her achievements and is looking forward to cheering her on this summer.

Boasting an incredible season so far, Tom Ford and James Rudkin will make up stern pair of the men’s eight in their second Olympic Games.

Tom (2011-2015) and James (2012-2016) shared three years at Newcastle together, celebrating a number of wins including the Prince Albert Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta and the European University Rowing Championships.

Since then, with James still representing the Blue Star, they have celebrated back-to-back wins in the Grand Challenge Cup at HRR and took away Bronze medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Everyone at NUBC is immensely proud of these athletes’ achievements and is looking forward to cheering them on this summer.

Having played a pivotal role for team GB by becoming one of the first British women to qualify two boats for an Olympic Games, Emily Ford will be racing in the women’s eight.

Emily rowed at NUBC between 2013 and 2017, during which time she qualified for Henley Royal Regatta in the Town Challenge Cup and won both the Avril Vellacott and Frank V Harry Cups at Henley Women’s Regatta.

With phenomenal success in all sweep rowing boat classes, Emily has had an incredible past year qualifying the women’s pair and eight into the Olympic Games. More recently, at World Cup I, Emily raced in the women’s coxless four and eight, winning two silver medals and showcasing her impressive flair for the sport.

Emily and her brother Tom, both NUBC alumni, will become the first brother and sister to represent Team GB in two Olympic Games at the same time, having both competed in Tokyo in 2021.

Everyone at NUBC is immensely proud of Emily’s achievements and is looking forward to cheering her on this summer.

After a solid season racing in the men’s pair as GBR2, James Robson and Will Stewart have been selected as Team Great Britain’s Reserves for the upcoming Olympic Games.

While they were at Newcastle, James (2013-2018) and Will (2015-2019) celebrated victory in the Prince Albert Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta in 2017. Another highlight for James during his time at NUBC, where his impressive ergo records remain unbeaten, was becoming FISU World Champion in the men’s eight in 2018. Will represented Great Britain three times during his time at Newcastle, becoming world champion in the under 23 men’s eight in 2019, and has since won six senior international medals.

After two races together in the pair this season at World Cups I and II, James and Will proved the pundits wrong and made it to the A final on both occasions, overpowering many nations’ first pairs in an impressive display.

Everyone at NUBC is immensely proud of what James and Will have achieved and is looking forward to supporting them this summer.
