The Home Of The Blue Star
We prides ourself on creating an environment that caters for all abilities. Whether it be World Champions or Novices. There is no individual greater than the club and as such it is argued that you will not find a more closely knit squad of athletes anywhere in the country. This spirit is most on display at BUCS Regatta where Newcastle are consistently one of the top preforming universities coming away with consistent Championship, Intermediate and Novice medals in a wide array of events.
With an outstanding alumni network, which has been awarded charitable status, the Blue Star Club sets NUBC apart from any other in the country. The Club works closely with the students to ensure world class equipment is available to all. When all this is combined with fantastic social calendar, you’re hard pushed to find a better university experience.
The notoriously tough training programme provides an environment which creates not just BUCS Winners or U23 World Champions but well rounded individuals set up to succeed in the world.
“I chose Newcastle University because of its balance of academic and sporting excellence. I knew that whatever came from my sport, getting a good degree while at university was of paramount importance. I found myself winning an U23 Medal, winning Henley and reaching the standard to join the Senior team. The inspiring coaching I received from Angelo Savarino led me to develop as a person as well as an athlete. I'm incredibly grateful to Newcastle University for getting me to where I am today.”
James Rudkin
Henley Winner, World Champion, European Gold Medalist and Bronze Medal Olympian
"I chose Newcastle for its reputation within women’s rowing. I had two older brothers who were at Newcastle and heard all the good things they had to offer. The support there was great with there being physio, S&C and scholarship support. I knew I was in safe hands. The reputation of Angelo Savarino is also phenomenal, his training programme is one of a kind and it reaps many rewards. The feeling you get when you sit on the start line to race for Newcastle after completing all the training is a sense of pride and a feeling you will remember forever."
