British Rowing University Crew of the year

We are proud to announce that the 2023/2024 Newcastle University Women’s First Eight has been chosen as the British Rowing University Crew of the Year.

Throughout the season, this crew proved themselves, placing 2nd at BUCS Head, 10th overall at WEHORR, and 2nd and 3rd in Championship 8s at Metropolitan Regatta. The crew then headed to Henley, progressing further than ever before for a Newcastle 8, reaching the semi-finals of Championship 8s at Henley Women’s Regatta and the finals of the Island Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta.

This crew went from strength to strength throughout the season, constantly pushing themselves and each other, setting club records at Henley Women’s Regatta, Metropolitan Regatta, and Henley Royal Regatta.

Since then, Holly Youd and Rachel Bradley have both represented GB at the U23 World Championships, with Holly winning gold in the pair. Rachel set a new club record for the 5k ergo. Harriet, Lucy, Rachel, and Holly raced in China, 8 out of 9 members of the crew won Rutherford Head, and Aoife graduated and is now rowing at Thames.

We are excited to see what all of these athletes go on to do. We know that whatever it is, they will be immensely successful!
