Eddy Peacock 2022-2025
I first got involved in rowing at Abingdon School in 2016 and pretty much fell in love with the sport from the very first outing. What started as an introduction to a new sport quickly became something I wanted to dedicate more and more time to. Over the years I developed not only my understanding of rowing but also a real appreciation for the people and challenges that come with it.
I joined Newcastle University Boat Club in 2022 where I coxed the Men's 2nd VIII in my first year before progressing to the Men's 1st VIII for my following two years. Newcastle gave me an incredible environment in which to continue developing as a cox, with the encouragement and support to find my own style and approach to the role. Having the freedom to develop my own voice, build strong relationships with the crews and learn how to get the best out of those around me has been one of the most rewarding parts of my rowing journey. Since graduating I've continued coxing at Leander where I have the opportunity to keep developing in the sport and build on everything I've taken away from my time at Newcastle.
What has made Newcastle so special to me is the strength of its culture and the people within it. With such a large and varied squad, there is always a place to find your people, build lasting friendships and feel part of something bigger. The support of the wider Blue Star community throughout my time at Newcastle was incredible and is a huge part of what makes the club so unique. Beyond rowing Newcastle gives you the opportunity to grow in whichever direction you choose, whether that's continuing in the sport or taking the next step into working life. The discipline and commitment that the Tyne teaches you through early mornings, challenging conditions and countless hours on the water are lessons that extend far beyond the sport itself. My time at Newcastle has given me friendships, experiences and skills that I know I'll carry with me long after university, wherever life takes me next.
