Henley Royal Regatta
Henley Royal Regatta
Newcastle University Boat Club gave it their all at the 2024 Henley Royal Regatta with both eights progressing through rounds, giving every race their all.
Island Challenge Cup:
After being prequalified but not seeded our women’s squad started racing on Wednesday. A 2 1/2 length win against the University of Rhode Island progressed them through to Thursday where they went on to beat Nereus, Netherlands by 3 lengths. In the quarter finals on Friday the northern rivalry was bought south as they drew Durham University, coming out on top, Newcastle once again won this race by 3/4 of a length. Saturday bought one of the most exciting races of the regatta for our Island 8+, in their semi-final against UL, our girls rowed through their opposition to a 1/2 length lead.
Making NUBC history this crew is not only our first women’s HRR finalists but also the first Newcastle 8+ to race in a Henley final !
Temple Challenge Cup
Another pre-qualified crew our Temple 8+ started racing on Tuesday and with a 2/3 of a length win against Imperial College London. On Wednesday they drew eventual finalists Princeton and after a tough race got beaten by 1 1/2 lengths.
Both our crews showcased incredible dedication and teamwork, making everyone involved in the Blue star incredibly proud.
